In the spring of 2000, we entered into a dialog with the Center for Land-Use Interpretation (CLUI), the Los Angeles based curatorial organization. CLUI was seeking to expand with an East-coast operations hub. Together, representatives from our two organizations toured possible sites for the new facility. At the same time, we researched local architecture and land-use patterns, which were then developed into a number of visualizations. In this process, we aimed to approach our information (following CLUI's lead) by including in our analysis the institutions of interpretation. Our contribution, then, in addition to focusing on architectural data, necessarily turned its attention to the institution of CLUI itself.
The speculations presented here take the form of a number of facilities distributed along the Hudson River corridor in New York, which together make up the greater Interpretation Center.
